I am very excited to start my blog, and I would like to begin by introducing myself. My name is Mehdi Harrar, a Moroccan born in 1999 in Rabat. I’ve been practicing surf since my childhood.
I consider myself a very ordinary person. I am a web developer, but currently, I am unemployed.
Since my childhood, I have spent my summer vacations, and sometimes mid-year holidays, in Oualidia. That’s where the idea of one day becoming a true surfer was born. I started with bodyboarding before moving on to surfing. I have always been fascinated by the sea.
Surf started from here.
Oualidia: The Pearl of the Atlantic
Oualidia is a village located 180 kilometers south of Casablanca. It’s an exceptional place with a unique natural beauty. My parents are originally from this village, which gives it a very special place in my heart.
In Morocco, many of the greatest surfers have visited Oualidia, as it is considered the starting point of Moroccan surfing. The further south you go, the more surf spots you’ll find, and the more visible the surf culture becomes.

Surf Dreams: Chasing Waves Around the World Against a Shocking Reality
When I was 15, I constantly dreamed of the sea and traveling, but more specifically, I dreamed of surfing on 20 surf spots around the world. As I grew older, that dream became more ambitious, and the list grew to 30 spots when I turned 18, including a variety of spots: dangerous, icy, beautiful, etc.
I will share this list in another article, as it represents my ultimate goal for this blog. However, being born in Morocco, a developing country, dreaming of all this seemed like a simple illusion. Everyone around me considered it madness.
If you grow up in France, for example, and want to surf in California, you have a great chance of making that dream come true. But in Morocco, dreaming of surfing in California is just a dream you’re allowed to have while you sleep.
Writing this blog is my way of saying that a part of my mind refuses to give in to this reality.
Surf the Mediterranean: My Goal to Ride Waves in Northern Morocco
Before embarking on this adventure, I must first prepare by improving my surfing skills and reaching certain goals to prove that I am ready to start this beautiful and risky journey. Surfing is considered one of the most dangerous sports, after all.
One of my goals before beginning this adventure is to surf in the Mediterranean, in northern Morocco. This would make me the first surfer to ride waves in the Mediterranean in Morocco. I’ve already discovered a surf spot there. Yes, even in the Mediterranean, there are waves. It was in 2018 that I first saw waves in this sea. At the time, I was just a tourist, and it was summer. When I tell my friends about it, they can’t stop laughing.
Personally, I believe there is great potential for surfing in the Mediterranean, but the problem is that the conditions are too rare to take full advantage of it.
Surf the Atlantic Coast: Discovering Famous and Secret Surf Spots in Morocco
Now let’s return to the Atlantic coast. Surfing in Morocco is mostly known through this coast, as it holds several world-renowned surf spots. There are many popular surf spots, but there are also secret surf spots known by only a handful of surfers, including myself.
I will show you these surf spots with videos to prove they exist. Some surf spots have never been surfed and are simply waiting to be discovered.
As a surfer, my goal is first to ride the famous surf spots, then tackle the secret ones. But to do that, I need to improve my surfing skills and physical condition because the waves on the Atlantic coast are no joke.
Exploring Morocco: Surf, Culture, and Why You Should Visit
In the future, I will detail my goals and share more articles. And to avoid being selfish, I will also talk about other topics that interest everyone, like the top 10 surf spots in France, the greatest surfers of all time, and the best surf spots in the world.
But let me tell you something: while Morocco is a developing country, it is incredibly tourist-friendly and amazing. If you ever have the chance to visit Morocco, don’t hesitate—you won’t regret it. The locals are very welcoming, and you’ll experience some of the best moments of your life.
I hope you enjoyed this blog. If you’d like to support me, feel free to make a small symbolic donation to show your interest. On my part, I will do my best to share more content and make this blog accessible to everyone.
